I posted the finished product of this tray yesterday.  I wanted to post it from start to finish and how I am using it in my home.

Here is the photo of the before. As you can see it has the ugly grape and wine design.

Next I spray painted it a glossy black:

Then I mod podge the scrap book paper on the inside of the tray. The bubbles did come out after the paper dried. I also sealed it with a spray sealer.

This is how I decided to use it in my home. I am using it to coral all the little things on my kitchen table. Warning! This is subject to change at any moment and with season to season.

  1. Very pretty! I think it turned out great! I never think to just paint over something like that...I have to keep that in mind when I'm shopping around.

  2. That really turned out great, Susan. I like to take old things and make them new again, too. I LOVE trays!. xo Diana

  3. What a huge improvement - very nice!

  4. It looks great! And trays are so nice to load with tea and cookies to take with you to your chair or sofa. There's so much you can do with this one. And it looks nice on your table! Happy holidays, Diane

  5. Hi Susan, love this redesign and the great new look you gave to this pretty shaped tray. I was here and commented a few days ago but not sure it went through. Glitches all over blogland.
